The Way Of Worldliness

Worldliness, Short story
A person steeped in worldliness fails to emerge out of it due to habituation says Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Once there was a fish-wife who was a guest of a gardener who grew flowers. She came to the gardener's house after selling her fish with an empty basket. The gardener and his wife played perfect hosts. She was showed the room where the flowers were kept to spend the night.

The hostess of the house on finding the fish-wife tossing and turning about restlessly inquired about her concern. The fish-wife said that she was unable to sleep as the fragrance of the flowers filled the room. She further requested the hostess to fetch her fish basket. When the basket was brought in, the fish-wife sprinkled some water on it, placed it near her nose and went to sleep soundly.

Hence a person immersed in worldliness often fails to seek higher ideals having got deeply attached to it.
