The Concealed Piety

Lord Rama Devotion, Short Story
There lived a king whose queen was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama. The queen yearned her husband also to be a devout devotee of Lord Rama which he apparently was not. She longed for the day when her husband would turn pious.

One night, while retired in their chamber, the queen heard the king mumbling something amidst deep sleep. The queen brought her ears close to his lips to listen to what he muttered. The lips of the king motioned to voice out the word 'Rama' repeatedly from within to the surprise of the queen.

The next day the queen arranged for a feast at the end of which the king asked the reason of the celebration. The queen replied with joy, explaining the whole incident and that it was a way of expressing her gratitude to God for having granted her long cherished wish.

The king was virtually annoyed of the queen's narration of the incident for the fact of bringing to light his concealed piety. It was humility coupled with piety. He then asked the queen not make a fuss over his devotion as he preferred it to be within his heart.
