All was set for the great battle of Kurukshetra. Arrays of archers representing the Pandavas and the Kauravas facing each other, ready for the signal of the conch shell. The two armies of the arch rivals waited with vengeance, eager to erupt. Moments that seemed to stretch beyond infinity.

A little lapwing bewildered with the unusual arrangement, instigated by her motherly instinct aroused the attention of Lord Krishna with her alarm. Did she identify her saviour amongst thousands who thronged? She sought His protection for her young ones who were nestled in the nest in the turf of a hilllock amidst the battlefield.

The gracious Lord at that precarious moment, placed an elephant's bell that was lying on the ground, over the nest, sheltering it from the ensuing chaos. While the war raged on for eighteen days, as weapons clashed and clinked, as blood spurted in the air, as chaos and confusion prolonged, the lapwing and its nest stayed unharmed.

After all is He not the anchor of the alarmed?
