The Message Of Peace, From The Burning Candles

One day we drove to Coles Park ( Bangalore ) to book train tickets back home. Nearby the office there was an old St. Francis Xavier Church. I usually saw it from a distance but never entered it. But, today I insisted to have a quick look until the person in-charge returned from his lunch break.
The old bricks and the renovating bars attracted me. As the gate squeaked with a welcome note, a hush of wild breeze teased my flowing fancy top and my hair, with a naughty play. The dusty wind and the scorch of the sun tried in vain to dissuade me in reaching the Lord's visible presence. We briskly climbed the steps to find some shelter. But alas! the main door was closed. Just then I found a hidden door on the side. The very sight of it was a relief. I peeped inside just to find some people walking around, but to my surprise I found hundreds of them sitting peacefully and staring at the statue of the Christ.
We tiptoed inside, my husband was busy admiring the architecture, but I was spellbound by the two candles near the statue that glowed without wavering. They were glowing peacefully unaware of the crazy wind that would just puff their flame off effortlessly. They burnt steadily and unperturbed as if to say they were within the protection of the Lord's ambit.
I glared at them. They had the message I had been searching for – the message of peace. They smiled with their glorious flame, and if you tried listening to them, you could hear a song of praise and protection. The candles made me take a few steps back in history, when as a child of great innocence, I sat on my Mom's lap singing incomplete sentences of the age old hymns which made the whole church turn their heads to my childish voice.

Then, came the fun filled college days. I was near to God physically, but my mind was filled with worldly life and pleasure. I disobeyed my parents, walked away from the family, till I was given a small pat by Him. I did fall. I did get hurt and I did ask Him why? At last, on one fine day I gave up everything and on the altar I submitted myself for Him to work on. Everything then fell in its place and and life was a joyous ride. Nothing stopped me from climbing the ladder of fame. At this time although I was attached to him emotionally, I never made a serious attempt to be a part of His worship.
