Josh Partners With Goonj For Their Chuppi Todo Campaign To Break Silence On Myths, Taboos On Menstrual Hygiene
Commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28th May, India's leading short-form video app Josh has partnered with Goonj for their Chuppi Todo Campaign, to Break The Silence on myths, taboos and stigmas on menstrual health and hygiene.
Goonj has been highlighting menstruation as a human issue for the past 2 decades. This year, on global Menstrual Hygiene Day, Goonj is launching Chuppi Todo Baithak (Break the Silence Meeting) campaign pan India inviting people from all walks of life to hold conversations on menstrual health in their own networks.

Goonj has evolved reusable cloth pads called MY Pads from urban surplus cloth, to address the triple A; access, awareness and affordability issue around menstruation. Also in the villages and cities of India, it holds Chuppi Todo Baithaks (Break the Silence Meetings) with communities of menstruators to break the silence and shame around menstruation and build better awareness around the importance of menstrual health in a woman's wellbeign. Over the years Goonj has also been using MY Pad kits to mobilise rural communities to to take action on their hyper-local menstrual challenges.
Adolescent school girls face a tough time dealing with menstrual challenges as they are subject to innumerable dos and don'ts. Women feel ashamed around this normal biological function, cannot afford menstrual products, and struggle for basics like water, toilets, private space, and healthcare.
his Menstrual Hygiene Day, Goonj is going back to the masses across India to further humanize menstruation as an issue, something men and women across urban and rural India, and especially the youth, should talk about. They are urging everyone to hold 'Chuppi todo/Break The Silence' conversations about menstrual hygiene and health.
Josh, as a short video partner for this campaign, provides Goonj access to its 80 million plus daily active users, including first-time internet users from across Bharat, especially from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, who use the app in 13 plus languages. Josh understands the significance of bringing dignity to the conversations on menstruation and supports Goonj in their efforts to shatter the culture of shame and silence prevalent in both rural and urban cities.
Talking on these lines, Meenakshi Gupta, Co Founder, Goonj said, "Its heartening to see Josh take up this cause with such enthusiasm. We hope more media outlets and organisations give space and voices to this issue, making it more about the health and well-being of women in our lives; our mothers, daughters, sisters and other women whose menstrual challenges haven't yet found attention. More so there's a need to bring voice and attention to the missed out voices and issues of disabled women, sex workers, tribal women, migrant worker women and many others who struggle the most given their other scarcities and lack. I hope this MH day and in the days to come this becomes a big community of people who speak up for making menstruation a human issue
Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level. On this Day, the partners join hands and share their commitment to highlighting Menstruation as a Human issue, not just a Women's issue; and bring dignified menstruation into mainstream conversations by asking Indians to #ChuppiTodo.
