International Women's Day 2023: Interesting Facts And Stats About Women Across The Globe
Women belong in all places in society and they are meant to be celebrated and recognized to understand how far they have come. With their incredible presence and achievements in every field, they have proved time and again that their courage and strength are limitless. Be it politics, culture, sports, science, technology or the world economy, they have created a niche for themselves.

Every year, 8 March is celebrated as International Women's Day and to celebrate it we have listed 15 amazing facts about women across the globe.
1. According to Guinness World Records, a woman named Marilyn vos Savant is the person with the highest recorded IQ of all time. She holds the record with an incredible score of 228.
2. The gross enrolment ratio of female students stands at 27.3%, more than that of male students, which is 26.9%, as per the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2019-20.
3. Once puberty starts, female brains jump to atleast two years older than their physical ages. But in the case of males, it is usually their early twenties to match their female peer's mental age, says research.
4. Studies have found out that some females may actually be able to see 99 million more colours in comparison to the average human being. While people have just three types of cone cells normally for detecting different colours, some women have four and they are known as tetrachromats.
5. Life expectancy for women is higher than for men in almost every nation across the world. As per the U.S. Census Bureau, women's life expectancy is projected to reach 87.3 years by 2060, compared with 83.9 years for men. Scientists believe that it may be due to the presence of estrogen in the body that improves immune function.
6. An UN Women 2019-2020 report mentioned that highlighting that in India, the number of "lone mothers" is rising, with 4.5% (approximately 13 million) of all Indian households run by single mothers.
7. Pew Research suggests that boys naturally outnumber girls at birth for hundreds of years consistently and the speculation is that it is nature's way of countering the relatively high mortality rates of males and creating gender balance in the population.
8. A poll's findings that involved 2,491 women by TotalJobs.com suggested that on average women spend five months of their life thinking about the right outfit to wear to work. It also said that on a typical workday, women spend 14 minutes thinking and talking about their attire. This can be because females face pressure to dress in a certain way from the male management.
9. According to a study, it was found that on average, women are suspected to consume about 4 to 9 pounds of lipstick over their lifetime. However, this number can differ between every makeup user and how often they choose to wear lipstick, but it does affect everyone who wears lipstick. This is so because they get smudged and eaten and do not evaporate.
10. The Tale of Genji, which is the first novel in the world was published by female author Murasaki Shikibu in Japan around A.D. 1000. It has been translated into many languages and is recognized for its masterful observations about court life.
11. The only female to win two Nobel Prizes is Marie Curie. While her first award was for her work in Physics, on spontaneous radiation with her husband, and her second was in Chemistry for her studies of radioactivity.
12. Merit Ptah was the earliest recorded woman physician, a doctor of the Pharoh's court (royal court) in ancient Egypt. Some also see her as a scientist. She lived around 2700 B.C. On her tomb, it was mentioned that she was a 'Chief Physician'.
13. In 1893, New Zealand became the first nation to grant women the right to vote in the modern era. She is the first-ever woman mayor anywhere in the British empire.
14. Hedy Lamarr was not only a 40s movie actress but an inventor as well. She developed a radio-controlled torpedo device during World War II. The device used "frequency hopping" to prevent the signals from the torpedoes from being jammed.
15. First Indian woman physician in 1887 was Anandibai Gopalrao. She was also the first Indian female who was trained in Western medicine and the first woman to travel to the United States of America.
