While ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Plays With Time Loops, Rajkummar And Patralekhaa Break Traditional Cycles
Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi are all set to entertain audiences with their upcoming romantic comedy, 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' - a tale of a couple trapped in a time loop as they count down to their wedding day. While the film plays with the chaos and comedy of love, Rajkummar's own journey to marriage with longtime partner Patralekhaa is equally captivating but for very different reasons. It's a relationship rooted not in cinematic tropes, but in real-world resilience, growth, and equality.
Let's take a closer look at the evolution of one of Bollywood's most grounded couples and how their wedding became a quiet revolution in itself.
From Mistrust To Magic : A Surprising First Impression
Before they were red-carpet regulars or shared screen space in 'CityLights', Patralekhaa had her doubts about Rajkummar. In a candid conversation, she admitted that her initial reaction to him was far from warm. Having watched him in his intense debut movie (LSD), she found him unsettling, an impression that lingered when she was invited to a music video shoot featuring him.
A friend, sensing her hesitation, encouraged her to attend, even suggesting she bring her sister for moral support. Looking back, it's a sweetly ironic twist, that the man who once unsettled her would go on to become her life partner. Their story proves that first impressions can be misleading, and that love often sneaks in through the back door when we least expect it.
The Turning Point : Recognition, Respect, And Real Connection
That turning point came during a car ride when Rajkummar recognised Patralekhaa from an advertisement and complimented her performance. It was a simple, genuine moment but it opened the door to deeper conversations, shared interests, and mutual admiration. Over time, what began as professional camaraderie blossomed into a solid foundation of friendship and affection.
Their collaborative spirit grew, especially after working together in 'CityLights' and later in the series 'Bose: Dead/Alive', further solidifying their bond both on and off screen.
The Long Road To "I Do": A Partnership Built On Friendship
After over a decade of dating, the couple tied the knot on 15 November 2021, announcing their union with heartfelt social media posts that celebrated "11 years of love, romance, friendship, and fun." Their relationship had never been about flashy headlines or dramatic gestures. Instead, it thrived quietly, anchored by shared values, mutual respect, and the kind of companionship that stands the test of time.
A Wedding That Questioned Norms, Not Just Celebrated Them
While their wedding was intimate and deeply personal, it was also quietly radical. In a standout moment that drew widespread attention, Patralekhaa applied sindoor to Rajkummar, reversing a tradition typically reserved for the bride. Far from being performative, this gesture stemmed from a spontaneous impulse on Rajkummar's part, sparked by a sense of imbalance.
"At that moment," he later told journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, "it was very impulsive, I felt why is it just her wearing the sindoor, mangalsutra, and chooda? I thought she had to wear and do so much, what am I doing? I was just wearing the ring. I just asked her, 'You should also put a sindoor on me. It should be equal.'" His request for Patralekhaa to apply sindoor on him too was an unscripted, heartfelt move towards equality, symbolic of the kind of relationship they share.
Rewriting The Rules : Questioning Vows, Embracing Agency
The couple's wedding wasn't just progressive in visual symbolism; it was thoughtful down to the rituals. Rajkummar revealed how they actively questioned the mantras and vows recited during the pheras, pausing to understand their meaning. One particular vow asking the bride never to be angry with her husband struck a chord. They simply opted out of it.
"For me," Rajkummar said, "that one was not valid." It was an act of quiet resistance, choosing authenticity over convention, equality over tradition. Their wedding wasn't just about saying yes to each other, but also saying no to the parts of tradition that didn't align with their values.
More Than Co-Stars : Collaborators In Life And Art
Their professional collaborations reflect the same ethos that shapes their personal bond, a commitment to storytelling, honesty, and shared growth. 'CityLights' marked the beginning of their creative synergy, one that continues to evolve with their individual and collective work.
A New Blueprint For Modern Love
In an industry often dominated by spectacle and grand declarations, Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa's relationship offers something refreshingly different - substance. Their story, marked by honest beginnings, shared vulnerability, and a commitment to evolving together, feels both aspirational and attainable.
They didn't just plan a wedding, they reimagined what a modern marriage could look like. With 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' promising another light-hearted take on love, it's worth remembering that the actor behind the romantic lead is living out a real-life love story, one defined not by perfect moments, but by mutual respect, shared decisions, and a refusal to settle for outdated norms.
