Ways To Deal With A Narcissistic Husband
Does your husband keep boasting about himself all the time? Does he lack empathy for others and has a sense of superiority over others? If your answer is yes, then better be careful, you may be living with a narcissistic husband!
Narcissism is a term used for persons who have unnatural sense of self importance and are extremely preoccupied with themselves. But when this trait slowly turns into a personality disorder, it becomes very difficult for the people around the person to cope with it. Dealing with a narcissistic person can be very difficult and when it comes to your husband, it is a huge challenge.
The trouble with the narcissistic persons is that they are never satisfied with whatever they have. They always want more. So, whatever you do for them, they will never be satisfied. Though it is challenging to cope with a narcissistic husband, there are several ways by which you can make it easier.

Identify The Problem
The first step to deal with a narcissistic husband is to identify the problem. The narcissistic people can be extra-ordinarily charming and flattering. While they seem attractive to most people, only the person close to him knows the agony. So, you have to accept the reality that the problems in your relationship is not your imagination. Your narcissistic husband is arrogant, selfish and attention-seeking.

Stop Reinforcing
When you are in love with your husband, you often tend to overlook his bad traits. You do not oppose his narcissistic behaviour and keep thinking that you are overreacting. But this only reinforces his narcissistic behaviour to the extent when you can no longer bring it under control.

Set Your Limits
A narcissistic husband will always put his needs before you. It is all about his likes and dislikes. You have to distinguish between his genuine needs and distorted ones. Set strict limits as to what demands you would meet and how much approval are you ready to give. Once the limits are set, follow it strictly.

Avoid One-sided Conversations
If your husband is narcissistic, then he will be completely wrapped up with himself. He will go on talking about himself and his achievements. So, when he goes on and on, stop the conversation immediately. You do not have to feel guilty about it. It is the only way to remind him that even you deserve attention.

Avoid Self Blame
Narcissistic partner can be very manipulative. At a deeper level they know how hurtful they are. But accepting it is way too painful. So, they manipulate their partner in such a way that you start believing that you are the one who is being selfish. Avoid being emotionally manipulated by your narcissistic partner.

Seek Professional Help
If you find that the situation is going out of your control and the mental agony you are going through is too hard to bear, then it's time to seek professional help. Seek counselling for your husband. This is not going to be easy because narcissistic persons can hardly be convinced that they need help.

Know When To Get Out
Living with a narcissitic husband can be really painful. Gradually you start feeling that you are worthless, incapable of being loved or respected. Coping with a narcissistic husband requires a lot of patience. But if you cannot bear being verbally or physically abused by your narcissistic husband then it is better to be ready to leave. Ending a relationship may not be easy but sometimes it is the only way out.
