Love Language Of Singles: Are You Ready For The Dating Trends Of 2025?
All the single people put your hands up! And, there is indeed a lot of you single people out there waiting for that tall, dark and handsome man or a beautiful damsel that they can go out on a date with. In this world of social media, there are so many dating apps to help you in this endeavour as well. With the help of these apps, some people do strike a chord together, some don't. In the light of this, 'Plenty of Fish', a dating app surveyed nearly 6,000 U.S. members and found out that social media and Tik Tok continued to influence cultural trends. On Sept 25th, 2024 it released its eighth annual list of how dating trends will look like in 2025 that offer singles new lingos to describe their dating experiences, according to PR Newswire.

Smutten - Pronounced smuh-tin, it is when singles fantasize about their love lives to the storylines of romantic movies, TV shows or books, expecting it to become their reality. If you look into the statistics, 33% of people have fantasized about such ideals. It goes higher for single women at 40% compared to 28% of men. Singles who come under this category crave for escapism. But at the same time they can be good models for their partners. Who doesn't love a bit of fantasy in their lives?
Freak Matching - This one is pretty interesting. Freak matching happens when you share the same eccentricities, unique interests or general weirdness with the one you are dating. Fun fact that 39% of singles have experienced this, I am sure many of you out there would want to connect with someone who matches their eccentricities.

Yap-Trapping - This is kind of common, we have seen a lot of people who love to talk about themselves without wanting to hear what others have to bring to the table. These people take no effort to bring a balance of a give and take in the conversation. Apparently 49% of singles have been on a date with someone who simply goes on about themselves without asking the other any personal questions.
StICKing - This is a phenomenon where people are turned off by cringe-worthy things or superficial qualities their date or potential love interest does or have. 36% of singles are opting to stick to these relationships despite these initial discomforts, indicating a trend toward greater emotional maturity and openness in dating.

Grim Keeping - Just like connecting with someone that shares your weirdness , grim keeping is when you bond with someone over your darker side or shared dislikes or things that rub you the wrong way. This inturn brings about a deeper connection in people. 28% singles have connected over grim keeping.

These dating trends are proof that pop culture have influenced romantic lives to a great extent. According to the New York Post, Plenty of Fish survey has also found UK dating trends 2025 to be parallel to the US ones. Singles are expected to connect with people who they can share their 'swamp' with and that is to let go of any pressure to be anything other than themselves. Moreover 70% have been reported to be 'rejuve-dating' that is prioritising self care after a breakup. Sounds pretty interesting, doesn't it?
