Valentine’s Day 2023: How To Practice Self-Love And Avoid Feeling Lonely This V-Day

Embracing Self-Love On V-Day

Valentine's Day doesn't come only in shades of red, pink or white. While most people make plans about how to woo their partner on V-Day and make promises about love and relationships, well, some take this time to reflect on themself, walk on the path of self-discovery and embrace self-love; because they detest feeling lonely on Valentine's Day.

It can be anything from taking a long hot water bath, reading a love storybook, spending a day at a spa, trying new hobbies or interests, talking with a dear friend, treating yourself to the best food, travelling to your favourite place, or enjoying your favourite show. You can also take this time to appreciate the people in your life who have taught you resilience, self-worth and the meaning of beautiful relationships.

It is pretty normal to be overwhelmed with emotions on this day especially if you are alone and do not have a partner to celebrate it with. But spreading love doesn't require a plus one, does it?

According to the QuackQuack (a dating app) survey, '37% of the survey participants between 25 and 30, primarily working professionals in 9 to 5 jobs, mentioned beating their loneliness by participating in the communication.' This is basically when people try to find friends and platonic relationships. 33% of people want genuine companionship this time of the year.

The study was done on 15,000 users from Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities to understand and find out how they would be celebrating Valentine's Day.

Thankfully, the ideas and preconceived notions around Valentine's Day are slowly changing and being alone doesn't necessarily mean being lonely.

Valentine's Day 2023: How To Practice Self-Love And Avoid Feeling Lonely This V-Day

No matter how cliché it may sound, we all know that at the end of the day, it is we who know exactly, how you want to feel or be treated. So, if it is 'I LOVE ME' and not 'I LOVE YOU' this Valentine's Day, here are some tips that you can follow to embrace yourself and avoid feeling lonely on the day of love.

1. Spreading Love Doesn't Require A Plus One

It is the intention that counts behind every action. So, when it comes to spreading love, do not restrict yourself just because you do not have a partner. You can also show love through kindness and appreciation and let your dear ones know how valuable they are to you. Valentine's Day is not only for romantic relationships, and therefore, spending time with your friends or loved ones will ensure that probably you have more love in your life.

2. Treat V-Day Like Any Other Day

There is nothing wrong with celebrating Valentine's Day, alone or with your significant other, but remember it is a commercialized day and therefore, it can be spent like any other day. So, even if it seems like buying gifts are the only way to show love and appreciation, it is simply not true. If the obsession with the day of love is overwhelming for you, then it is best to see it in a positive light and convey to yourself that this day too shall pass.

3. Treat Yourself To A Spa

Do the things that speak 'love' to you. It can simply mean taking care of yourself or your needs. If you love a long hot water bath or a spa then go for it and enjoy your own company to the fullest. On Valentine's day, you do not need to combat V-Day blues by preparing yourself in advance, just go with the flow instead. It is powerful to be in your own company and silence can appear to be golden after a long day at work. Don't you agree?

4. Cook For the Elderly Or Orphans

The best way to spread love is to help others. You can participate in some charitable works and be associated with an NGO. Take care of people who do not feel loved or have a caregiver. Make something special for them that will instantly bring a smile to their face and make them feel loved. You can spend time in an old age home or orphanage. It will not only help you feel the void that you probably face on every V-day but will help you to add a different meaning to the day of love.

5. Plan A Day With Friends

A random video call or scheduling a get-together with your closest friends can make this V-Day incredible for sure. Get them goodies that will only show how much you care for them. Also, you can plan a trek, a night out, watch movies or enjoy dinners and simply revive the old and beautiful memories. This will also help you to shift your focus on the people around you and prevent the feeling of loneliness.

6. Take Help If Required

Not all battles are meant to be fought alone and therefore, it is best to get professional help while navigating through your feelings, especially on Valentine's Day. Health experts will help you to channel your emotions and give you clear instructions about dos and don'ts. Further, you can also meet with people who go through similar issues and learn how to tackle your situations better from their experiences.
