Do Gandhian Principles Work In Relationships?
Its Gandhi Jayanti today and it made us wonder, do we follow the principles of the great leader in our day to day life? You must be wondering how does Gandhian principles apply to our common lives? But if we see it from a different perspective, Gandhian principles are very much applicable in the life of each one of us.
Non violence and truth were the two most important principles taught by Gandhiji. Interestingly, these two things are very important if we want to maintain healthy relationships with the people around us. These relationships are not restricted to your husband or family or just your kids. This applies to every relationship in your life, personal as well as professional. Maintaining a non violent and truthful approach helps you overcome many difficulties and challenges in the relationships.

Let us have a look how these Gandhian principles work to maintain healthy relationships:
Non Threatening
Making other people feel comfortable around you is very crucial in any relationship. Talk and act in a way that people feel comfortable in expressing what they feel. For instance when you have non threatening approach, your kid feels comfortable to tell you what problem he is facing with his peers.
Respect
Basic respect is the key to a healthy relationship. Respecting your spouse, listening to her and being emotionally supportive makes the relationship grow strong. Mutual respect is an uncompromising element of every relationship.
Honesty And Truth
If you have done something wrong, be honest and accept your fault. This will never break your relationship with the other person. In fact when you are truthful, the other person tries to view it from your perspective too. Being dishonest will always hamper a relationship.
Responsibility
Taking responsibility is a crucial point in a relationship. Do not run away from your responsibilities because running away only makes it more difficult for you. Face the challenges which your relationship offers you.
Non Violence
Maintaining a non violence in relationship is extremely important. Your partner or your child or your friend is not a punching bag to vent out your anger. Violence kills relationships. So, control your anger and follow non violence in relationships.
So, Gandhian principles do work in relationships. You just need the right approach and way to incorporate them in your life.
