Who Ails More At Old Age?

By Super Admin

There are constant studies going on about the caliber comparison of men and women. However it seems nobody has noticed the old age of men and women. A recent study shows that although women live longer than men, they suffer more from disability that stems chiefly from obesity and arthritis.

The ailing concerns of arthritis and obesity in senior women make them more vulnerable to suffering and disability than men in their same age group.

The above said ailments are a result of women's tendency to pack on extra pounds in their childbearing and peri-menopausal years. Higher rates of obesity and arthritis among women explained up to 48 percent of the gender gap in disability – above all other common chronic health conditions.

The research, which included 5,888 people over 65, is the first to isolate the impact of specific chronic health conditions on the difference in disability rates between older men and women.
