The Rapists' Delhi
Rape, Rape and Rape! The capital, which claims to have a big heart for everyone, is certainly becoming totally unsafe for women. Everyday it seems reshaping its reputation of having people with big hearts into a heaven for hoodlums with lust-filled gazing eyes.
Once I asked some my office colleagues, aged 19-35, what's that, that pushes them towards teasing any woman? Excitedly almost everyone presented their strong reason of justifying the call of amorous urge. Somebody called it 'obvious' attraction; somebody termed it as a great idea to relieve one's daily exhaustion in public transports. Somebody went to the extent: if they can wear tight-fittings or revealing dresses, why not give them a real feel of being closely appreciated. That one hour 'enlightened' me with the inside story of such 'dangerous' mindsets who usually created nuisance in public places.
Well, they didn't have the slightest clue of the next question in offering. I asked them what if some day any strong built youngster like them imitates such behaviour with their own sister or wife in public? How would they like to punish him if his sexual advance takes the shape of bottom pinching or at the worst; rape?
Every one looked furious and shouted their idea of cutting his ***** (testostrones) or killing him instantly? I simply asked them isn't it a strange behaviour from those who were just advocating eve-teasing a minute earlier? They said Bhaiya apni behen/biwi ki baari to hum kuch nahin dekhne wale (we won't tolerate anyone if it was our sister or wife's turn).
Well, on that day, I knew I had done the salt sprinkling on some wounds. I felt satisfied with my performance. Fortunately, in one sentence I was able to humiliate them at least for half-an-hour. I felt how justice-monger can one turn when it comes to his/her beloved one. The more I one visualises, the more wild-methodology he thinks to punish such outrageous action. But it surprised me where does such a high expectation of morality vanish when the aggrieved relatives (males) are themselves freaking on roads? Do they ever remember what are they doing in buses or public places?
With that small-sized random survey of sex-maniacs I felt highly educated about the filth that prevails in such minds. Regardless of education or position, every day thousands of women are RAPED physically of mentally in 'close relations'. Under the tag of 'love' or 'liking' what on earth is not taking place in Delhi's auto rickshaws? Is government watching these 'love-birds' who do the work of appetizer for the onlookers. Or, NGO's are still planning to protest provocating billboards that trigger that emotion called "SEXUAL APPETITE". Certainly, these appetizers deserve the blame of turning Delhiwalas into 'always ready beasts'.
Not every father or brother is strong enough to confront every muscle-flexing youngster on street, college, and office or in buses. No woman loves enjoying a crowded bus-drive and being touched by how so ever smart/bad looking guy around. There are reasons that push millions of women to come out in public and earn their livelihood. Regardless of how tight/loose or covered/revealing dresses they wear, men view them as if they are all available for public consumption. Shame on us, if we cannot appreciate the courageous women who are striving to earn food for their families despite the presence of street Romeos like us!
But does all these give a clean chit to girls of Delhi? Are they always on the right side of truth? Well, only an insane would disagree with the polluted-lifestyle of Delhi by the visitors coming as students from other parts of the country. Accept it or not but Delhiwalas are not yet prepared for sex-explosion my friends. It's not Mumbai. Its just Delhi, which is learning to go Mumbai way.
In Delhi, I have also met such friends (girls) who call it another boring day if nobody made a remark on their "beauty". Showing off undergarments sounds 'natural' to them, even if the taunts feel objectionable. Perhaps, the re-mix album of Kanta Laga sent a wrong message to their psyche. You can visit any college in Delhi University's campus areas and see it all yourself. Before showing sympathy to the latest rape-victim on Dhaula Kuan incident how many of us ever thought of the half revealing-half covered lifestyle student from northeastern states wear. Almost everyone from students from northeast to Bihar is beating all records of even small and big screen actors.
Just visualise that scene where a girls with low-waist jeans or anything passes any worker or vendor on the street. Can he be expected to look somewhere else when the other guys are passing comments to those smiling girls? Well, it takes two to tango. And such girls are creating problems for those locals who ultimately become the targets of sex-maniacs. Until everyone introspects the repercussions of his/her own present behavior, no Police or moral-police can do much.
