When Time’s Tight And Tantrums Strike, This Bread Snack Comes to the Rescue!

Mothers often find themselves in a dilemma every evening when their kids are in school. You might wonder, what's that? It's the age-old question: What should I make for them when they come running home, hungry for snacks? Kids are always looking for something new and exciting, and they get bored easily. The fact is if you keep serving the same snacks every day, they'll probably end up crying for something different.

A Backstory

My mother is a working woman, and there is one among many things that I am very proud of her about. She manages both household chores and her career very well and I still can't manage to understand how? As a school going kid, I never thought about such things. The only thing I cared about was, the moment I returned home, my mom would cook something tasty for me to eat. I always looked forward that.

As usual I ran towards the kitchen for homemade snacks, but I noticed that there was nothing at all and I questioned her. My mother said she was really tired and didn't have time to make anything for me. I started throwing tantrums, crying loudly, demanding something to eat no matter what. My upset mother scolded me in return and I ended up crying more and ran towards my room to vent out my frustration in solitude.

An hour had passed, where I was sniffing back my tears in a typical childish tone and the door of my room opened. In came my mother with a plate of golden brown round snacks. It was shaped like a cutlet but it looked different. I asked her what it was. She said, "I didn't know what to make on such short notice, so I just grabbed whatever ingredients I could and made something with bread."

I hesitantly took a small bite of the cutlet. The taste forced me to take the whole plate from my mom's hand. "Stubborn girl you are" she remarked with a frown. I was too busy relishing the cutlets to react to what she said that time. But now when I look back, nostalgia hits me out of the blue and it makes me realise that we certainly take our mothers for granted.

Though many might know of this recipe and have made it in different ways, this is my version. I hope you'll try it this weekend and show some love to your dear ones.

Specially dedicated to all mothers and daughters out there, this is a simple recipe for a simple snack.

How It Comes Together

Though the bread might be in the lead here, we have to start off with the other ingredients. So, take a cutting board and chop ginger, onion, garlic, coriander leaves and green chillies into thin slices. Enter the bread slices. Break them with your fingers into small pieces and dampen them slightly with water just enough to make it a little easy and soft to bind all the ingredients. (Beware of putting in too much water please!)

Once that is done take a pan and fry the chopped ingredients. For that desi taste, you have to add half a teaspoon of garam masala. And if you forget to add salt, it will probably taste bland, so add a sprinkle of some that suits your taste buds. Then let the fried ingredients cool, once it does blend it along with the shredded pieces of bread and coriander leaves.

Ditch the kitchen tools for your hands again to shape them into flat balls and shallow fry in oil. Once they are golden brown on both sides, take them out and place them in a strainer. It's best when you have them hot and paired along with tomato sauce.
