Ramadan 2025 Special Recipes : Upgrade Your Iftar Menu With This Crispy And Creamy Delight!
As the sun sets during Ramadan, families gather around the table to break their fast with a meal that nourishes both body and soul. The iftar spread varies from one household to another, but it often includes a mix of refreshing drinks, fruits, and hearty dishes that bring comfort after a long day of fasting. While traditional Ramadan meals differ across cultures, Arabic dishes like falafel and hummus have gained popularity worldwide for their delicious flavors and satisfying textures. This crispy, golden snack paired with smooth, creamy hummus makes for an irresistible combination, perfect for sharing with loved ones.
If you're looking for a simple yet flavorful dish to add to your iftar menu, here's how you can prepare crispy falafels with homemade hummus right in your kitchen.
Crunchy Falafels
Ingredients
1 cup chickpeas (soaked overnight, then dried)
1 onion, roughly chopped
2-3 cloves of garlic
2 green chilies, chopped
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander powder
¼ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
A handful of chopped coriander leaves
How To Prepare
Prepare the Mixture - Add the soaked and dried chickpeas, onion, garlic, green chilies, lemon juice, cumin seeds, coriander powder, baking soda, salt, and chopped coriander leaves to a grinder. Blend until you get a coarse mixture.
Shape the Falafels - Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into oval or round patties.
Refrigerate - Let the falafels rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to help them hold their shape.
Deep Fry - Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the falafels until they turn golden brown and crispy.
Drain & Serve - Remove from the oil and place them on a paper towel or strainer to absorb excess oil.
Your crispy falafels are ready! To elevate the experience, pair them with a smooth and flavorful hummus dip.
Creamy Hummus
Ingredients
1 cup chickpeas (soaked overnight, then pressure-cooked with a pinch of baking soda for about 4 whistles)
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 large cloves of garlic, chopped
1 tsp salt
½ tsp cumin powder
2 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for garnish)
Water (as needed)
For the Tahini Paste
¼ cup white sesame seeds
2 tbsp olive oil
How To Prepare
Make the Tahini Paste - Roast sesame seeds in a dry pan until golden and aromatic. Let them cool, then grind into a fine powder. Add olive oil and grind again until turns into a smooth paste.
Blend the Hummus - In a blender, add the cooked chickpeas, tahini paste, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and cumin powder. Blend until well combined.
Add Olive Oil & Water - While blending, gradually add olive oil and a little water until the hummus reaches a creamy consistency.
Garnish & Serve - Transfer to a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and serve fresh.
A Delicious Addition To Your Iftar Table
The combination of crispy falafel and creamy hummus is more than just taste, it's about balance. The rich, nutty flavor of hummus perfectly complements the crispy texture of falafel, making it an enjoyable snack to share with family and friends. Whether served with warm pita bread, fresh salad, or simply on its own, this dish brings a touch of Arabic flavor to your iftar table.
This Ramadan, take a moment to savor good food and even better company. Happy fasting and happy feasting!
