Dahi Aloo Recipe: How To Prepare Dahi Aloo Ki Sabzi
Dahi aloo is a popular North Indian side-dish that is prepared during the times of fasts or vrats. It is also a regular household recipe. Here is a detailed preparation method with images and a video.
Dahi aloo recipe is a simple vrat recipe that is commonly prepared in North India. This is a simple curry that is made with boiled potatoes, curd and regular household spices. The dahi aloo ki sabzi is consumed during vrats and hence this recipe does not contain onions and garlic.
The dali-wale aloo is a quick and simple side-dish to prepare during the time of upvas and goes well with either poori, roti or jeera rice. Since aloo is a favourite vegetable among the children and adults, this delicacy is a sure hit that will be liked by all when made at home.

Water - 2½ cups
Potatoes (washed) - 2
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Jeera (cumin seeds) - 1 tsp
Ajwain (carom seeds) - 1 tsp
Ginger (grated) - 1 tsp
Green chillies (chopped) - 1 tsp
Roasted peanuts (crushed) - 4 tsp
Curd - 3 tbsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Jeera powder - 1 tsp
Rock salt (sendha namak) - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves (chopped) - for garnishing

1. Add 2 cups of water to a pressure cooker and add the washed potatoes.
2. Pressure cook it for up to 3 whistles and allow it to cool.
3. Meanwhile, add ghee in a heated pan.
4. Add jeera, ajwain and ginger; and saute.
5. Further, add green chillies and roasted peanuts; and stir.
6. Add curd and red chilli powder and stir well.
7. Add ¼th cup of water, jeera powder and mix well and allow it to cook on a low flame.
8. In the meantime, open the pressure cooker lid and peel the potatoes.
9. Cut the potatoes into cubes and add it into the pan.
10. Mash the potatoes a little and add rock salt.
11. Add 3 tablespoons of water and stir well for about 3-4 minutes.
12. Once done, garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
- 1. Dahi aloo can be prepared as a thick or runny gravy based on your preference.
- 2. Normal salt can be added instead of rock salt.
- 3. Onions and garlic can be added to the sabzi in case it is not prepared for a vrat or fast.

STEP BY STEP - HOW TO MAKE DAHI ALOO
1. Add 2 cups of water to a pressure cooker and add the washed potatoes.

5. Further, add green chillies and roasted peanuts; and stir.



6. Add curd and red chilli powder and stir well.
