Lasagna, a quintessential Italian dish has found immense popularity over time. Now, it has gradually made its way into Indian homes as a cosmopolitan cuisine. This dish is truly amazing in its variations and can be customized completely to suit the Indian palate while maintaining its authentic flavors.

A hearty Italian dish, this one requires a few key ingredients. This one is a total crowd-pleaser. Let's check out the step-by-step guide to making luscious, cheese-layered lasagna in a desi kitchen.

For the Meat Sauce
1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until softened.
2. Add the ground beef and pork and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. If you do not like pork or beef, you can replace it with chicken or mutton.
3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
4. Simmer the sauce on low heat for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the better the flavor.

How To Prepare the Béchamel Sauce
1. In a separate saucepan, over medium heat, melt the butter.
2. Stir in the flour and cook for a few minutes until it forms a light golden paste.
3. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps.
4. Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and a pinch of nutmeg. Set aside.
Assemble the Lasagna
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
3. Place 4 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
4. Add a layer of meat sauce, a layer of béchamel sauce, and a sprinkle of both mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
5. Repeat the process with another layer of noodles, sauces, and cheese. Continue until you've used all the noodles.
6. Finish with a layer of meat sauce and a generous topping of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Bake:
7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes and remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbling.
Serve:
Let the lasagna rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
