Frequent Passing Of Stool: Toddler Care Tips
Toddlers are a bundle of energy. You are hard pressed just to keep up with them. They tumble and roll and get into all sorts of scraps. You find your temperament swinging between complete bliss one moment and utter worry the next. It is natural that they will face some health issues at some point.
Toddlers are prone to illnesses as they have low immunity power. Most of these illnesses are normal parts of growing up. But, some are indeed serious. Regardless toddlers need utmost care and affection when they are feeling down and as a parent it is your responsibility to provide this.

Below, we list some tips on toddler care when he or she is passing stools frequently.
Type of stool: Before you start worrying about toddler care, determine the nature of these frequent stools. If they are normal, it might just indicate a faster rate of metabolism, but if runny test him for infection or diarrhoea.
Cleanliness: Incorporating cleanliness in toddler care is not the easiest of tasks. But, faced with frequent stools, insist on washing hands properly after passing stools and also before and after meals.
Food allergies: Sometimes your toddler passing stools frequently may indicate intolerance for any of the food that he is eating. Testing him for allergies should enable you to provide appropriate toddler care to avoid such situations.
Infections: There are chances that your toddler is passing frequent stool because of some infections. It can be due to virus, bacteria or parasite. The associated symptoms will vary depending on the cause. This is a case where you need medical assistance.
Sweetened drinks: Some kids prefer to drink sweetened drinks like squash or fruit juices which can lead to toddler passing stools frequently. It is a better toddler care policy to let them drink pure water and reserve juices as treats.
Keep hydrated: When your toddler passing stools frequently, make sure to keep him hydrated. Water, decaffeinated tea and coconut water are all good drinks to be given as part of toddler care during this time.
High fat diet: Even though a low fat diet is recommended for adults, toddlers require a high fat diet for proper growth. Deficiency of fat could be a reason for your toddler passing stools frequently.
Balance the fibre content: It is essential in toddler care to balance the fibre content in their diet, not too less and not too high. Otherwise, it could lead to your toddler passing stools frequently.
Oral rehydration solution: ORS is to be administered to your toddler passing stools frequently if the stools are very runny. This is a quick solution to prevent dehydration and is recommended only if you feel the problem is severe.
When to call the doctor: Diarrhoea is a serious matter, especially if accompanied by stomach pain, vomiting or blood in faeces. When your toddler is passing stools frequently with these symptoms, seek medical help immediately.
