Treating Loose Motions During Pregnancy
Loose motions during pregnancy is not as common a symptom as constipation. Pregnant women are usually constipated because all the extra water goes to amniotic sack of the developing foetus. Hormonal changes are also responsible for constipation during pregnancy. But loose motions during pregnancy have nothing much to do with hormones. Neither does it count as a pregnancy symptom.
Loose motions during pregnancy are usually due to external factions like stomach infection or improper diet. The trouble is too much diarrhoea can lead to dehydration during pregnancy. And we all know that dehydration during pregnancy can have disastrous results for the mother and the growing foetus.

It is imperative that you identify the cause of loose motions during pregnancy and then treat it immediately. Here are some common causes and remedies for loose motions during pregnancy.
Cause: If you have been eating outside food, there is a good chance that you develop a stomach infection leading to diarrhoea. This infection can be both bacterial or viral. Unfortunately, most common antibiotics for treating stomach infections are not safe during pregnancy. Your doctor may prescribe some medication or ask you to use home remedies.
Solution: Having ORS solution and lots of fluids can sometimes wash out stomach infections. You can also try having honey mixed with water. Boiled apples and unripe banana can also help to stop loose motions.
Cause: Your hormones may not allow you to digest all kinds of food during pregnancy. For example, citrus juices are very healthy for pregnant women but having them fresh is important. If you have orange juice that has been stored for sometime, you can get loose motions. Some pregnant women are intolerant to milk and milk products.
Solution: Go over your diet chart with your doctor and list the food items that might be causing the problem. You will soon realise that avoiding the problematic foods will help you stop the diarrhoea.
Cause: Iron supplements sometimes don't suit pregnant women. But you are bound to be put on iron supplements when you are around 18 weeks pregnant.
Solution: If the chemical varieties of iron supplements are not suiting you, then stop them. Try taking organic iron supplements that are available these days after consulting the doctor. Also try to eat iron rich foods to cover up any deficiency.
Dehydration during pregnancy can be fatal for you and your baby. So prevent dehydration by treating loose motions during pregnancy at the earliest.
