Parenting Tips: When And How To Teach Your Kids About Mental Health
Just as we teach children to eat well, behave well and do other things, it is equally important to educate them about mental health from a young age moreover, the importance of mental health.
But when should you start? How can you introduce this sensitive topic to your kid? Let's explore.

Teaching Your Kids About Mental Health
When is the right age to begin?
Truth be told, as soon as they can understand emotions.
Children as young as 3 or 4 can begin to grasp simple emotions like happiness, sadness, and anger. This is a perfect time to start introducing the concept of mental well-being. Make sure to use age-appropriate language and stories to help them understand that it's okay to feel different emotions [1].
How to begin the conversation about mental health with your kids?
Begin gently and through everyday situations. Use everyday situations as teaching moments.
For example, when your child is upset because a toy broke, talk to them about how it's natural to feel sad or frustrated. Tell them that talking about these feelings is important and that you're there to listen, giving them a sense of safety.

Why teach kids about mental health?
Because mental health is as important as physical health. When kids understand their emotions and learn healthy ways to cope with them, they're better equipped to handle life's challenges.
How early mental health education can help kids?
Studies have shown that children who receive early education about mental health are more likely to develop resilience and better emotional regulation skills. This can lead to improved overall well-being.
On A Final Note...
In a society where mental health is often stigmatised or ignored, it is your responsibility as parents to break the cycle.
Starting early and nurturing the mental health of our children is something that will benefit them throughout their lives. So, don't wait; initiate these conversations, and let's create an emotionally healthier future for our kids.
