Bedtime Bonds: How To Connect With Your Child Through Words At Bedtime
What do parents typically complain about when it's bedtime? Yes, the usual! That their children don't go off to sleep, and it's always a hue and cry in the house that the parents can't go off to sleep. There are parents who take the help of bedtime stories or lullabies to push their children to sleep but do you know that there is something much beyond that, that parents need to do before they get their kids to bed.
It's simply not about just getting them to sleep but it's making them feel at home, safe and secure. Before they close their eyes and dream about unicorns and rainbows, these kids have to always keep in mind that their parents will be there for them no matter what. There are times when children cry and wake up from sleep seeing nightmares, or feel that they see monsters or dragons under the bed. Such conversations help them feel that nothing can harm them when their parents are around.
This isn't the only aspect, let's see what are the ways in which you can connect with your child through words at bedtime.

- First, as a parent, say how happy and glad you were to spend the day with them. No matter how angry you must have made them for the mischief they did that day, they should always remember that you will always love them no matter what
- Next, ask them how their day went, if they have anything to talk about, anything they would like to share with you, whether in school or anywhere else. This is the perfect time to know their fears, worries and emotions
- What is that you are grateful for? Or What is the one good deed you did today? These are questions that can be best used to communicate with your children. In this manner you can cultivate gratitude and good deeds in your kids and they will learn to appreciate humanity and the simple joys in life
- As said earlier, let them know they are safe and secure at home, with you being just a call away. Give them a hug and assurance that nothing can harm them when you are there with them
- If something is bothering them, tell them everything is ok, the world is a beautiful place and they are doing a good job by growing up and making you proud
- Tell them the importance of sleep, probably be a bit overdramatic. Like tell them if you get a good sleep it will make you strong like Superman or Superwoman
- Express your feelings for them. Tell them how much you love them and apologise if you have to if you have hurt them in any way that day.
- Finally, kiss them goodnight and tell them that you wish that just as sweet as they are may their dreams be sweet as well

To sum it up, communication plays a key role in your child's life. Once a child understands that their parent cares about their feelings and will be there for them every step of the way, that child can sleep soundly with a big smile on their face. That's a guarantee.
