Are Chicken Nuggets Healthy? Can I Give My Kid Chicken Nugget?

I'm sure, as a parent, you've wondered if the tasty chicken nuggets your children eat are healthy for you.
Even though most of these chicken nuggets are made by hygienic-brands, eating chicken nuggets still has a number of risks.

And when you buy fried chicken nuggets, you are unaware of the ingredients and oils contained in them. And some nuggets are processed and must be fried at home. Be it store-bought or fried at home, the side effects of chicken nuggets seems to be almost similar.
Why Are Chicken Nuggets Unhealthy?

The most important component of chicken nuggets is chicken meat, naturally.
However, what about the other ingredients? The top-ranked food retailers claim that they use only chicken breast meat for their nuggets.
However, several studies have proven that chicken nuggets are manufactured with TBHQ, GMO corn, Autolyzed Yeast Extract with MSG, Dimethyl Polysiloxane Anti-foaming Agent, Sodium, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Sugar, and Bleached Wheat [1].
The effects of these products are unknown to the majority of people.
Therefore, it is essential that you understand why chicken nuggets are unhealthy before consuming them.
Take a look at how these ingredients may harm your health if you consume them on a daily basis.
1. Effects of hydrogenated soybean oil
Hydrogenated vegetable oils' trans fats have been shown to harm heart health. Studies reveal that trans fats can increase levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol while decreasing good HDL (good) cholesterol, both of which are risk factors for heart disease [2].
2. Side effects of sugar
Sugar is often used as dextrose in nuggets, so too much of it can result in fat deposits in the body. Fat deposits are necessary as fuel for your body, however excessive fat deposits can only result in disaster. This food should also be avoided by diabetics since the sugar can cause hyperglycaemia [3].

3. Excessive sodium
It's easy to see why chicken nuggets aren't good for you when you know how much sodium they contain. You need only 2000 to 3000 milligrams of sodium per day, which means 10 nuggets contain 1000 milligrams of sodium. You could get high blood pressure from nuggets since they don't have potassium to balance out sodium [4].
4. Bleached wheat
The gluten-free flour you use when making chicken nuggets at home is not harmful to your health. The store-bought nuggets are made of bleached wheat, where gluten plays a vital role. This causes your blood sugar levels to rise [5].
5. TBHQ and dimethylpolysiloxane
As a petroleum-based product, TBHQ is capable of causing cellular mutations, liver damage, reproductive system damage, biochemical changes, etc. The last element is likely to shock you. This silicone-based product is used in cosmetics and fillers for breast implants [6].
It is true that chicken nuggets taste delicious. However, too much consumption of these foods can negatively impact your kid's health and your health too - if you are fond of chicken nuggies!
Can I give my kid chicken nuggets?
If you are feeding your child chicken nuggets after the age of 12 months, it would be best to do so in moderation. However, since they are typically highly processed and contain a significant amount of sodium, it would be best to only serve them on occasion.
