By Bhadra Kamalasana

There is something very interesting about our current lives and times. We are now prisoners who sit at home or in other such equally mundane enclosed spaces tapping on our gadgets with our fingers. Our generation was shuffling between e-mails, home land line numbers and the occasional luxury of a mobile phone.

DO YOU KNOW THESE FACEBOOK FACTS?

Today the generation of kids does not like to wait; they would rather just log in and partake in mass hysteria of the latest phenomena that is sweeping humankind of its feet, something that is called Facebook. And, parents wonder, "Should kids be allowed on Facebook?"

Should Kids Be Allowed On Facebook?

Here are a few reasons why children should not be on Facebook.

Inappropriate Content

Facebook sure does have a large team of content moderators but there are pages that can easily pass as adult content. There are hordes of perverted communities and groups that can be very lethal for a kid’s mind. Not to mention, because Facebook has the liberty of both pictures and videos, they create a more lasting impression on the minds of people.

Wrong kinds of People

There are all kinds of people who are networking on Facebook and therefore it is very necessary that kids are kept away from the reach of ill-minded people. Frankly, even adults are very much threatened and are constantly falling prey to the wrong kinds of people, and in such a scenario kids can be a very good aim for wrong kinds of people. Kids often tend to befriend strangers more quickly and this can cause trouble.

Threat to privacy

Your kids can give out private information to anyone online. This is yet another problem that can become very serious if necessary actions aren't taken. They could casually be giving out their home address, posting the name of their school, or mentioning where they are and when will they be at a certain place on a certain time.

Pop Culture Diseases

You have to agree that there is something strange about popular culture in the current times, and there is no escaping it. There is this need to party which is supposed to be living the life and partying all night and pop music is apparently the cool thing to do. You do not really want your children to be all song and dance.

Moreover, one should understand that there is time for everything. Parents must ask themselves if their kids should be allowed on Facebook or not before they show the green flag.
