Alternatives To Nagging Your Kids

Almost all kids complain that their parents are way too nagging. While you may not agree with them but you have to accept their perspective. There is a definite need to discipline your kids to bring them up in the right way. However, nagging your kids is not the only solution to your parenting problems. There might be better parenting techniques than nagging your kids.

Nobody likes to be nagged; even a child of 5 will stop listening to you if he or she feels that you are repeating yourself. That is why, you must be careful about the way to lecture your kids. Here are some smart alternatives to nagging your kids. You can change your parenting techniques based on these ground rules.

Nagging Your Kids

Silent Treatment

It is a wrong concept that saying the same thing again and again will drive the message home. Your kid is smart enough to get the message at once. So if he or she doesn't act on the message it means that they don't want to. Say what you have to say once and then give your child the cold shoulder. Your kids will hear your silence louder than your words.

Makes The Rules Clear

Be very reasonable with your kids but keep the ground rules clear. If you have told your kids to clean up their room every weekend and they don't do it, they will get their least favourite dish for dinner. Never bend the rules for them and that will be the best way to discipline your kids.

Never Lose Your Temper

Kids sometimes do things just to infuriate you. You must not lose your temper under any circumstance. As soon as you lose your temper, you have lost the battle of wits. Don't take your kid's behaviour personally. After all, you child is not your spouse that you should have a ego war with him or her.

Write It Down

Make a list of things that you keep repeating to your kids and put it up in their room. Once you have written it down, you don't have to keep nagging your kids all the time.

If your kids think that you are nagging them, then take this accusation seriously. Never forget your own days as a child. Nagging has negative effects on your child. Your kids will stop taking you seriously if you keep repeating yourself. Be firm so that saying something once is enough.
