The analysis was carried out to relate physical fitness to academic achievements racially and economically diverse urban public school district of children enrolled in grades 4 to 8 during the 2004 and 2005 academic year. It was thus, concluded that their was a strong relationship between academic achievements and good health.
Improved performances in standardized Maths and English increased with the number of fitness test passed. The results remained unchanged even when factors like gender, race/ethnicity, and socio-economic status were considered as a control.
"For families and schools, these results suggest investments of time and resources in physical activity and fitness training may not detract from academic achievement in core subjects, and, may even be beneficial," the authors said. AGENCIES
