A Short Story For All The Extraordinary Mothers

By Staff

It was a dark night, stars had hid behind the dark blanket. I wonder what they were upto. As I opened the large window near my bed, soft breeze with tons of warmth wrapped me around lovingly. It hushed in its lowest voice a small incident of my childhood.

It was a cloudy day. The weather was in its playful mood, with some soft showers and dusty breeze. As if trying to wrap me in it own game. I joined hands with it, took my bi cycle and rode towards the hill to have a chat with the thundering voice that echoed far from the sky (all seemed like an adventure tale that mom read last night before creeping into the dreamland).

Before I could catch up with the roaring wind, I slipped my balance and rolled down with closed eyes. I woke up only after 6 weeks. During this period all that I remember was a soft humming voice that didn't make a point to stop even for a second. The voice did juggle me from the death trap. It was soft but strong enough to make me stand on my foot again.

When I asked mom about the songs that I used to hear, she just smiled and said ' Sleep my child you need to rest'. Somehow her words were not convincing. The next day I asked the nurse, she said, “how could you hear anything at such a state, anyways it was your mom who was singing God's songs. She has a soothing voice. I can never forget the song that she sang most of the time.

“O my soul, did you not know?
Have you not heard?
From the beginning
The Lord your God is on your side.

O my soul don't be afraid
Hope in the Lord
By His righteousness and power
He will strengthen
He will guide

Chorus:
And I will soar
On wings like eagles
Held by the hand of God
I will run and not grow tired
When on His name I call .........
...........I will trust in Him
With all my heart ( Don Meon's Song )"

Believe me, every time she looked at your wounded body and closed eyes, she smiled and sang songs with a faith that could even move mountains."

And that was not all, I had to hear something more too. The nurse continued, “She asked me not to tell you, but you should know as you are a very mischievous kid, and your small adventure has risked her life. She has sold the house and all gold ornaments to gather money for your operation. Some other nurse on duty noticed that she has been donating blood every other day, to get you the medicines. Your life is precious to her than her luxury and health. So make sure to think about her first, before jumping into your any daredevil adventures." Just then mom knocked inside the room, with a smile and hugged me. The hug was just like that of the cold breeze with a warmth of love. I thought, she would tell me what she had to face because of my child's play. But she has never spoken about it till date, because I was not a burden for her but a priceless gift of God.

Above was a day to day story of a normal child but an extraordinary mother. And for all those who do not know, all the mother's in the world are extraordinary. We usually forget the little things that they do, just to see us smile in glory. So make it a point to make her happy unconditionally on her special day. Happy Mother's Day.
