Number of children are worried about their first day at school. Schooling is essential for the better career of a child thus it is the parents who have to prepare their child for the first day at school. It is not just the day before the first day to school the preparation is to be started, but foreseeing child's schooling parents should prepare them to welcome the school days cheerfully.
The preparation should start a few weeks before school starts. Making your child familiar with the school premise and teachers is most important. Schooling is like transplanting a child from home to school. Giving your children a tour to the school and making him/her familiar with the building will wipe away the fear and will give your child a sense of independence.
It is the first day at school that render the child with the wings to fly as an adult. So it is to be approached in a calm and pleasant manner. Children should feel like taking part in a fun activity when they face the first school days.
As preparation for schooling children should be provided with all school materials like notebooks, pencils etc.. Let your children have a choice when you shop for it. Make them attached to books by reading for them and buying coloring books for them.
When you play with your child pick a teacher student game. Make the child know the class rules like raising his hand in order to ask a question, helping the teacher hand out papers, or how to be quiet when asked. Give them solutions for possible problems in school and practice the solutions with role playing. Narrate stories of your school days to your child so that he/she may feel that school is not a place to be afraid of. Tell them all the positive things about school and tell them what they will learn in school. Making bad comments about school will make them feel that school is an unpleasant place.
Make sure that your child had some home away experience before they enter school. Letting your children to stay overnight away from home with grandparents or relatives will occasionally develop more independence in him/her.
Talk with them about what their first day will probably be like. Tell them about fun with other children, with books and puzzles, with the big blocks, with the computers, with the science activities, on the playground, at snack times, etc.
Make sure your children know that every child goes to school and that schools are wonderful places to learn. It is your children's job to be a student, just like it is your job to go to work. Talk to them about friends who will also be at school when they are there.
Prepare your child for a new social life. Teach them the polite ways to interact with other students and and with their teachers. Make your child learn to dress up well. It is important to teach them to use the toilet properly. The lessens of discipline and cleanliness should be given to him/her much before the first day at school.
If your child has few tears when you are leaving the classroom, don't worry. Most of the children cease shedding tears as the parents are out of sight. If your child broke into tears when you leave from school the best thing to do is to leave quickly. The longer you stay, the harder the child will cry.
Don't ignore your child's feelings. Tell your child it's normal to feel nervous about the first day of school. Encourage your children to share their feelings, good and bad, about school. Keep in close touch with your children's teachers. Schooling is an on-going partnership between teachers and parents.
Last but not least, help your child get off to the best possible start on that first day by getting them to sleep in plenty of time for the next morning, and preparing a light but nutritious breakfast. Let the first day of your child be the most enjoyable experience for them.
