Addiction is the major issue for children in many countries. It cannot be just bordered as the use of tobacco, heroin, cocaine, other drugs, alcohol and cigarattes. Children today are experimenting with a wide range of addictions like cough syrups too. Some children are addicted to pills that gave them a sense of bliss when consumed. So, let us relate how a parent can help their children to break the bond of addiction.

Talk to them
The first reaction of the parents when they hear that their child is using drugs is to burst in rage or throw them in a dark cell. Do not talk to them while you are in such a state. Calmly walk out of the room without uttering a single word. Lock yourself in a room to prepare an advanced speech that triggers their fault and will help them repent. This will also help you to stop the conversation spiraling out of control. If you are not a person who can talk calmly or if you realize that your child is adamant and will not listen to your boring speech; then get a person with you whom your child adores and loves to talk about the situation.

Prompt questions that reveal information

;

It is very necessary to prompt the right question during the conversation. Avoid asking 'why' questions that will make the child to stand on the defensive platform. Children aged 9-13 may not have any specific reason to give. So ask questions that begin with when, where and how. Make sure to embrace your child during the conversation. Do not make them sit in a distance with a banner "sinner". Try to have an eye contact too. Gesture the statement that you are there to help them and not to harm them. Your child will surely open up to you.

Listen carefully
Listen to your child carefully. Disconnect all the phone calls or avoid any interruption during the conversation. Pay all attention to your child's feelings. If you or your friend has a background of drug use, then share it with your child. Children at a young age do not know the later consequences of its use. So, brief them in detail of varied health and relational effects that will be implanted in their life with the use of drugs.

Be a role model
Keep all the people or things at bay that may influence your child to be a part of varied addictions. If the parent is a chain smoker then the child will surely not listen to any of his/her worthy speech. So live a life that influences your child to do something good than bad. Avoid using any kind of drugs in the presence of your child.

Seek help
Do not hesitate to seek help from psychiatrist if the situation becomes worst. Breaking a drug addiction may involve counseling, an outpatient treatment program or residential treatment. Addiction is a chronic backsliding disorder. A person tends to fall back into old addictive behaviors, even after several treatments. So, seek help for a long-term recovery. You can also approach help lines or hot lines to learn all about drugs listed in the phone book or on the Internet.

To end with, shield your child in your safe wings as there are ravenous eagles soaring high to just pounce on them the moment they see them unprotected.
