Here are some tips to help protect your child from the heat during a heatwave:
1. Dress appropriately: Make sure your child is dressed in light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable materials like cotton. Avoid dark colours and synthetic fabrics which trap heat.
2. Wear sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 before your child leaves for school, and send a bottle with them so they can reapply as needed.

3. Stay hydrated: Encourage your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Send them to school with a refillable water bottle to ensure they have access to water at all times.
4. Pack a mini fan: Consider packing a small fan in your child's backpack so they can cool off during breaks or while waiting for the bus.
5. Plan ahead: If possible, schedule outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler. Make sure your child knows to seek shade when they need a break from the sun.
6. Communicate with the school: Talk to your child's school about their heatwave policy and make sure they have plans in place to keep students safe during extreme temperatures.
