Can You Get Your Period And Still Be Pregnant?
A question that many women have asked throughout the years is whether a woman can get her period while still pregnant. The answer is yes, it is possible to get your period and be pregnant at the same time. But how? Let's look into it.

Can You Get Your Period And Still Be Pregnant?
While it is very rare, it is possible for a woman to have a period during the early stages of pregnancy. This is because menstruation is triggered by a drop in the hormone progesterone, which does not occur until after an egg has been fertilised and implanted in the uterus.
The fertilised egg triggers the production of the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), which tells the body to produce more progesterone, stopping the menstrual cycle. In rare cases, the egg may be fertilised but not implanted in the uterus, resulting in a period during early pregnancy [1].
If a woman does experience a period during her pregnancy, it will likely be very light and last for a few days. In addition, there may be some spotting or light bleeding throughout the remainder of the pregnancy.

What Happens When You Get Periods During Pregnancy?
It's important to note that a period during pregnancy does not mean that the pregnancy is in danger. This is because the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy cause the uterus to create a thicker lining than it normally does, which helps to protect the foetus [2].
This thicker lining is typically shed during a period, but in pregnant women, it's shed in a much smaller amount and over a shorter period of time. Most often, a period during pregnancy is a sign that the body is adjusting, and the pregnancy is progressing as normal.
How To Make Sure You Are Pregnant?
The only way to know for sure if a woman is pregnant is through a pregnancy test. If the test is positive, it's important to follow up with a doctor and receive prenatal care. Besides a pregnancy test, other signs of pregnancy can include missed periods, fatigue, nausea, breast tenderness, and frequent urination [3].
However, only a pregnancy test can provide a definitive answer, and it's important to seek medical care to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

On A Final Note...
It is possible to get your period and still be pregnant. However, it is very rare and only a pregnancy test can confirm if a woman is actually pregnant. It's important to consult a doctor if a woman is experiencing any unusual symptoms, or if she thinks she may be pregnant.
