Childbirth, just like any other medical procedure, involves certain complications can arise, so a lot of precautions must be taken.
So, have a look at some of the most common causes for maternal death, here.
1. Hypertension

One of the most common causes for maternal death is hypertension, or high blood pressure. If the mother is already suffering from high blood pressure, before childbirth, it can be elevated during labour, inducing heavy blood loss or cardiac arrest, due to the contractions of the uterus, thus causing maternal death. So, a lot of precautions must be taken if the mother is suffering from hypertension.
2. Obstetrical Hemorrhage

Obstetrical hemorrhage is a medical emergency that can also cause maternal death during child birth. In this condition, there is a lot of postpartum bleeding that is experienced by the woman, internally. So, if the doctors are unable to stop the bleeding or if immediate medical attention is not given, the excessive bleeding can lead to organ failure, causing maternal death.
3. Uterine Rupture

Yet another common cause for maternal death is uterine rupture. During labour, a woman's uterus experiences a series of intense contractions, in order to push out the baby, through the vaginal opening. In some cases, the contractions can be so intense that the uterus can rupture, thus inducing a massive amount of bleeding, resulting in death.
