Dharampal Gulati, The Owner Of MDH Company Dies At The Age Of 98: Some Facts About The Spice King
Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, the owner of the famous Mahashian Di Hatti spice company also known as MDH passed away on Thursday at the age of 98. He was undergoing treatment at the Chanan Devi hospital in Delhi and died after suffering from cardiac arrest.

Though he is a class V dropout, he became the highest-earning CEO in the country. Today we are here to tell you some interesting facts about the 'Spice King' of India. Scroll down the article to read more about him.
1. Dharampal Gulati was born on 27 March 1923 in Sialkot, then a part of undivided India.
2. His father Mahashay Chunni Lal Gulati founded the MDH company.
3. After the partition of India and Pakistan, the Gulati family migrated to India with only 1,500 rupees with them.
4. After migrating to India, the family stayed for a while in a refugee camp in Amritsar.
5. In order to find a better living condition and earn a livelihood, they moved to Delhi.
6. Gulati initially used to work as taangewala also known as a horse-cart puller.
7. Soon the family collected enough money to open a spice shop in Karol Bagh.
8. The spice shop brought success to the Gulati and hence, the family gathered enough money to rent another shop in Chandani Chowk, Delhi.
9. Gradually, Gulati was able to establish his own spice company in 18 different cities across the country.
10. Not only this, but he also established the factory in Dubai.
11. At present the company sells 62 different products and holds a reputation of claiming 80% of the total market share in the northern parts of India.
12. He also acted in some of the commercials of the MDH products. However, he got to act in his ads when one of the actors failed to turn up. The actor was supposed to play the role of the bride's father. After seeing that the actor hasn't come to play the role, the ad director asked Gulati to take over the role and this is when Gulati decided to act in his own commercials.
13. In the year 2018, Gulati took home a salary above 25 Crore INR. Thus, became the highest-earning CEO in the country.
14. In the year 2019, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest Civilian Award.
15. Gulati donated 90% of his salary to a charity operating under the Mahashay Chunni Lal Charitable Trust. At present, the trust meets the expenses and manages a 250-beds hospital in Delhi, four schools and a mobile hospital for those who live in slums.
