The Indian Premier League (IPL) dominated Google searches this year, hitting its peak during the thrilling May finals. It was a season to remember-Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third title, Virat Kohli crossed 8,000 runs with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sunil Narine of KKR made history as a three-time MVP. Sunrisers Hyderabad's Travis Head also stood out, smashing the most fours of the season.

T20 World Cup

Ranking second on this year's trending search list, India's thrilling T20 World Cup win against South Africa in the US and West Indies was a comeback story that had cricket fans buzzing. After last year's heartbreaking defeat, this win was nothing short of iconic. The tournament not only reignited the nation's cricket craze but also showcased India's resilience on the global stage.

Ranking third in this year's trending searches, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saw a massive spike in interest, especially during the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha election results in early June. Securing a historic third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP was a key political highlight. Meanwhile, "Election Results 2024" took the fourth spot, reflecting the widespread interest in the seven-phase election process and its outcomes.

Paris 2024 ranked fifth in this year's trending searches, marking a historic Olympics with several milestones. Breaking, the dance sport, made its Olympic debut, and the Games were the final ones under IOC President Thomas Bach's leadership. The opening ceremony was a first, held outside a stadium with athletes paraded by boat along the Seine. Paris 2024 also achieved full gender parity, with equal numbers of male and female athletes. After a five-year gap, the Games saw a strong Indian representation, with 117 athletes competing in 16 sports disciplines.

It doesn't end there. India won six medals at the Paris Olympics this year, including a silver and five bronze. Manu Bhaker made history as the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal, followed by her mixed team bronze with Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale added a third shooting medal, marking India's best-ever haul in the sport. The other top 5 most trending searches include "Excessive heat" as record-breaking heat this year highlighted issues related to global warming, making it a major topic of discussion while people searched for solutions and information on coping with extreme weather.

Followed by Ratan Tata, the revered industrialist and philanthropist who passed away in October at 86, dominated search trends as tributes poured in for his impactful contributions to business, charity, and social causes. Due to the Lok Sabha Elections Indian National Congress is next in line as the most trending in Google.

The Pro Kabaddi League 2024 ranked 9th in trending searches with Sachin Tanwar becoming the most expensive player at Rs. 2.15 crore, and Season 11 set to take place in Hyderabad, Pune, and Noida, culminating in the playoffs and final in Pune from December 26-29 of this year.

Finally, the Indian Super League claimed the 10th spot in Google's trending searches. This season is the first where it's no longer mandatory for clubs to include at least one player from an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member association.
