Drama has been regarded as a channel that provides intellectual pleasure. Performers of different types of fine arts narrate the story either on stage or in a particular area. Theatre is not only about live and scripted work, but also includes forms of theatre such as film, television and other electronic media. Ibsen is considered to be the father of modern theatre and he is the worlds most preferred playwright after William Shakespeare.

In India, under the British rule, the modern Indian theatre ventured on its own when a theatre was started in Belgachia. There are certain common themes that can be seen in all the plays, most important of them being appearance and reality; change; order and disorder; and conflict. The very first play that was staged was in the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens at the early part of the 5th century, but theatres soon caught the fancy of the theatre goers like wildfire and they spread all over Greece.
In recent years, Director Arvi Kivimaa of the Finnish Branch of the World Theatre Academy was the first person to propose the idea of celebrating the World Theatre Day. The first ITI conference was organized in Finland, Helsinki, and the next session was arranged in Vienna.
Theatre day is treated like a national festival where the plays are staged in different parts of the city for people to see. It is just like festival celebrated in a different way. The aim is to pass on the message at the global level about World theatre day. Internationally reputed speakers address gatherings to convey their experiences, ideas and reflections on the theatrical art. French playwriter Jean Cocteau was the first person to deliver a message on World Theatre Day. On this day, theatrical communities get gether on a large scale to showcase their work.
