In recent years, Director Arvi Kivimaa of the Finnish Branch of the World Theatre Academy was the first person to propose the idea of celebrating the World Theatre Day. The first ITI conference was organized in Finland, Helsinki, and the next session was arranged in Vienna.

The aim is to pass on the message at the global level about World theatre day. French playwriter Jean Cocteau was the first person to deliver a message on World Theatre Day. On this day, theatrical communities get gether on a large scale to showcase their work.
