Why The Sun Won't Rise In Alaska Till New Year 2024, Know The Reason Here!
Why The Sun Won't Rise In Alaska Till New Year 2024: Waking up to the warmth of the Sun in the morning is something we hardly think about and some of us do take it for granted. Can we imagine a day without sunlight? Probably, not! Well, the reason we are talking about it is because there are few such places on Earth that are not visible for months.
In an Alaskan town Utqiagvik, the sun won't be visible for two months, and the people living there will welcome Sun in the first month of New Year 2024. Know the reason here!

Utqiagvik In Alaska Will Not See Sun Till New Year 2024, Know The Reason Here!
Utqiaġvik, which was known as Barrow, is America's northernmost town and on Saturday, 18 November, the sun set there for the final time this year. It will be only visible in late January as the Arctic Circle is experiencing polar nights. Everyone celebrates the day when the sun sets and also welcomes the sunrise after two months with great joy.
However, this town won't be completely dark due to the civil twilight which will take over the night sky for several hours, which would typically be daytime.
Civil twilight starts when the Sun's center is within 6 degrees below the horizon. As Utqiaġvik is about 500 miles northwest of Fairbanks, it does not experience this complete lack of daylight. The minimum extent of the sunlight in Fairbanks is about 3 hours and 41 minutes, which happens around the winter solstice, mentions the National Weather Service.

Through the spring, the amount will steadily grow and reach the point of "midnight sun" during the summer. It is during this period, that this Alaskan town sees the opposite of what it experiences over the winter, with 24 hours of sunlight.
As the Northern Hemisphere tilts away from the sun in the winter months, communities close to the North Pole experience a phenomenon known as polar night, which means uninterrupted darkness.

Locals also believe that winter's darkness has a negative impact on people who live in this region. So, to remain healthy, Vitamin D and light therapy lamps are common forms of treatments that people add to their regimes until daylight returns. However, this phenomenon is a sight to behold for stargazers!
