Additionally, all indoor medical infrastructure is built using medical-grade stainless steel for maximum hygiene and longevity, while all animal enclosures are earthquake-proof up to a 10.5 Richter scale rating, ensuring utmost safety in this seismic-prone zone. A leopard rescued from human- wildlife conflict in Junner, Maharashtra, was placed in a habitat closely resembling its native sugarcane fields, easing its transition into a stress-free, familiar environment.

Elephant Care Centre

Vantara is home to more than 260 rescued elephants, providing them with a sanctuary where they can live freely after being rescued from logging industries, circuses, tourism rides, and street begging. Once shackled and forced into unnatural roles, these elephants now have the space and freedom to heal, form social bonds, and engage in natural behaviours such as dust bathing, cooling off in mud pools, swimming in ponds, and foraging for fresh greens and seasonal fruits. Spanning 998 acres of forested land, Vantara offers a habitat that mirrors their natural environment.

For elephants suffering from arthritis and foot problems, specialized hydrotherapy pools support their recovery and improve mobility. Bulls in musth are given over 1.25 acres of chain-free space to roam, keeping them mentally and physically engaged. The Elephant Care Centre at Vantara is home to the world's largest elephant hospital, offering advanced veterinary care that integrates allopathy with alternative medicine, including Ayurveda for chronic disease management and acupuncture for pain relief.

Its state-of-the-art medical facilities include a hydrotherapy pond with high-pressure water jets for arthritis treatment, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for wound healing, and a dedicated foot care facility. The Spix's Macaw Reintroduction Programme

Once declared extinct in the wild, the Spix's macaw is now at the centre of a ground breaking global effort to restore its population, with Vantara playing a key role. In collaboration with its partners, Vantara provides expert guidance and resources to support the reintroduction program while establishing its own conservation breeding centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. A significant milestone was achieved with the successful transfer of 41 birds from a breeding facility in Berlin to a dedicated release site in Brazil's Caatinga biome, their natural habitat.

The Cheetah Conservation, Breeding, And Reintroduction Program

Vantara's Cheetah Conservation, Breeding, and Reintroduction Program is a pioneering initiative aligned with the vision of Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to restore India's biodiversity by reintroducing cheetahs to the country. Over the past year, Vantara has established a state-of-the-art facility in Jamnagar, spanning over 300 acres and designed to provide a natural habitat for the world's fastest terrestrial mammal.

This facility includes expansive enclosures with grasses, shrubs, and trees, as well as a fully equipped cheetah hospital to ensure the highest level of care for the animals. With the expertise of wildlife veterinarians and specialized staff, the program has already delivered impressive results, with 17 cubs born in the past four months, bringing the total number of cheetahs to 109. These cubs, raised by five dedicated cheetah mothers, receive expert veterinary care, balanced nutrition, and minimal human imprinting to preserve their natural behaviours.

The program emphasizes acclimating the cubs to local conditions and honing their survival skills, such as hunting. Once ready, these cheetahs will be released into carefully selected habitats like the Banni Grassland Reserves in Gujarat, where they will undergo a structured rewilding process. Vantara's holistic approach integrates cutting-edge veterinary care, data-driven genetic pairing, and species-specific welfare strategies, ensuring the successful reintroduction of cheetahs into the wild.
