Pizza Hut, a division of Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc., is the world's largest pizza restaurant company with more than 8,000 units in the United States and nearly 4,000 units in 90 countries. The company is the recognized leader in the billion pizza category. Pizza Hut is a restaurant chain and international franchise based in Addison, Texas, USA, specializing in American-style pizza along with veriety of delicious side dishes.

The Pizza Hut chain was founded as a pizzeria in 1958 by Dan and Frank Carney. Borrowing 0 from their mother, they purchased some second-hand equipment.

Then the Wichita State University students took a family pizza recipe, rented a small building, and opened the first restaurant at a busy intersection in Wichita, Kansas. Additional restaurants were opened, with the first franchise unit opening in 1959 in Topeka, Kansas. At the same time Pizza Hut was growing in and around Kansas, Shakey's Pizza was developing a stronghold along the West Coast. The competition provided Pizza Hut the impetus to evaluate its mission and direction.

The franchise network continued to grow through friends and business associates, and by 1964 a unique standardized building appearance and layout was established for franchised and company-owned stores, creating a universal look that customers easily recognized. By 1970, with 310 stores nationwide, Pizza Hut went public on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock ticker symbol PIZ. In 1977, Pizza Hut was acquired by Pepsico, along with KFC and Taco Bell. In 1997, the three restaurant chains were spun off into Tricon, and in 2002 joined with Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants to become YUM! Brands.

The most commonly sold food at Pizza Hut restaurants is pizza, which usually comes in four different sizes including Personal Pan, Small, Medium and Large, although most stores have done away with the small size. They come in a variety of toppings, including "specialty" styles, which consists of Meat Lovers, Pepperoni Lovers, Cheese Lovers, Veggie Lovers, Double Cheeseburger, Supreme, and Super Supreme, which is Pizza Hut's most expensive pizza. Pan Pizza has a thicker crust than most other commercially available pizzas.

In addition to the Pan Pizza other attractions at Pizza Hut are garlic cheese bread, Stuffed Crust, Hand-Tossed, Thin 'N Crispy, Bigfoot, which is a two-foot by one-foot square cut pizza; and the Dippin' Strips pizza, Edge pizza etc... Pizza Hut experiments with new products frequently. They also have a pizza called the double deep pizza. It has the double the toppings than a medium and it has 50% more cheese. Then wrapping the crust over the top to hold all the toppings in.

Pizza Hut also has a number of side dishes including bread sticks, cheese sticks, cinnamon sticks, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, chicken wings, boneless wings, chicken munchers, jalapeno poppers, and garlic bread. They also have Quepapas potato bites filled with cheese and jalepeno flavor. They have other sides like a basket of taters or tater tots and a plate sixi mini fried apple pies.

Adding another chapter to the decades-old "space race" chronicles, Pizza Hut has become the first company in history to deliver pizza straight to the pioneers living in outer space on the International Space Station (ISS). The creation and delivery of the world's first space-consumable pizza was the culmination of nearly a year of collaboration between Pizza Hut and Russian food scientists. After months of rigorous testing, the Pizza Hut pizza made the landmark, trans-atmospheric journey to become the only pizza ever delivered to and eaten by people living in space.

Today with large number of outlets and with varieties of dishes and pizza varieties, the world leader Pizza Hut remains the most favourite and popular restaurant in the world.
