The Secret Lives Next Door : How One Man Hid A Double Life Across Five Apartments
In the places we call home, we often assume that the people around us are living straightforward, predictable lives. We pass by our neighbours, exchange pleasantries, and go about our own routines, believing that we know everything there is to know about the lives behind those closed doors. But sometimes, the most surprising stories unfold just a few steps away, hidden beneath layers of routine and trust.
This story takes us into the heart of a community where, unbeknownst to everyone, a web of deception and hidden relationships is being carefully maintained. It's a reminder that the lives we think we know are often much more complicated than they appear, and that the truth can be startling when it eventually surfaces.
The Story of Xiaojun
In a story that has left Chinese social media buzzing, a man from Jilin, known by the pseudonym Xiaojun, managed to maintain secret relationships with four women while married, all within the same housing complex, and one even lived in the same building as his wife, Xiaojia.
Despite coming from humble beginnings, with his mother working at a bathhouse and his father taking construction jobs, Xiaojun created a persona as a wealthy heir. To impress Xiaojia, he bought counterfeit luxury items and spun tales of a successful family background, eventually marrying her after she became pregnant. This covert setup continued for over four years without any of the women suspecting a thing.
A Web Of Lies
After Xiaojia got pregnant and they married, she soon discovered Xiaojun's actual financial struggles. Instead of divorcing him, she decided to raise their child alone and kicked him out. But within a week of moving out, Xiaojun met Xiaohong online and quickly won her over with his fake wealthy persona. He convinced her to lend him a hefty 140,000 yuan, which he used to keep up appearances.
Incredibly, he even rented a flat in the same building as his estranged wife and moved in with Xiaohong after she became pregnant. But he didn't stop there-Xiaojun continued his schemes with three more women in the complex, convincing university students Xiaomin and Xiaoxin and nurse Xiaolan to loan him money, totalling nearly 33,000 yuan.
Fake Cash, Real Trouble
Last April, when Xiaoxin needed to pay her tuition and asked Xiaojun to return her 10,000 yuan, he pulled an elaborate trick; renting a luxury car to meet her and handing her a black plastic bag, saying it contained 100,000 yuan for "important business" and not to open it.
When he began ignoring her messages, she finally looked inside the bag, only to find it filled with practice cash used by bank staff to count banknotes.
Furious, she reported him to the police, leading to his arrest. Ironically, it was only when law enforcement called, that his wife Xiaohong, out for a stroll with their kids, realised they'd been sharing the same husband. How Xiaojun managed to keep up this charade for so long remains a mystery.
A Dramatic End To His Complex Mosaic of Lives
Xiaojun's story reached a dramatic end when the People's Procuratorate of Fengman District sentenced him to nine and a half years in prison and fined him 120,000 yuan for fraud, bigamy, and theft. Authorities also confiscated 280,000 yuan from his schemes, returning it to his victims. The case, covered by Legal Daily, left Chinese netizens in disbelief.
Across social media comments poured in, with one person wondering, ""Is this really not a joke? How did he manage his time with five women without being caught?" and another joked that "He is truly taking 'The safest place is the most dangerous place' to an expert level." A third remarked, "Even TV dramas wouldn't dare write this - he basically created his own harem!
