Red Fort Car Blast Under UAPA Probe: Delhi Tightens Security, Learn How To Stay Safe In Public Emergencies
A day after the shocking explosion near Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station, investigators have confirmed that the case is being probed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act.
The incident occurred around 6:52 pm on 10 November 2025, when a Hyundai i20 parked near Gate 1 of Red Fort Metro Station exploded suddenly, triggering a fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles.
According to Delhi Police and rescue officials, at least eight people were killed and around 20 others injured. The area, one of the city's busiest heritage and tourist zones, was quickly cordoned off as emergency services rushed in.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site and reviewed the situation with senior officials. A multi-agency probe involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG) and Delhi Police Special Cell is now underway.
The car is registered to a Gurugram resident named Salman, who is currently being questioned. Investigators are verifying ownership transfers and possible links to organised groups.
What Happened At The Scene
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud bang followed by smoke and flames. Several vehicles nearby caught fire, and windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered. Panic spread quickly across the busy road that connects Chandni Chowk and Daryaganj.
CCTV footage shows the car had been parked near the metro gate for about two hours before the explosion. Investigators are still determining whether the blast was triggered internally or from an external device.
How Authorities Are Responding
Security has been tightened across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with additional checks at metro stations, markets, and heritage sites. Police have been instructed to step up night patrols and vehicle screening.
The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi issued a security alert advising citizens to avoid the Red Fort area and remain cautious in crowded public spaces. It expressed condolences to the victims' families and said it was closely monitoring the situation.
Unanswered Questions
Investigators are now working to identify the type of explosive and trigger mechanism. The motive remains unclear. Officials are also exploring whether the incident has any link to the recent explosives seizure in Faridabad, though no confirmation has been made.
Forensic reports are expected within the next 48 hours, which may reveal if the explosion was accidental, deliberate, or part of a larger network.
What This Means For Citizens
Incidents like this are unsettling because they strike at places we consider routine-metro stations, parking areas, and public landmarks. While security agencies are strengthening surveillance, personal vigilance remains crucial in public spaces.
Safety And Precaution Tips
- Stay alert in crowded areas or transport hubs; report any unattended bags or suspicious vehicles.
- Avoid clustering around incidents or filming; it can block emergency teams and increase risk.
- Note exits whenever you're in a mall, station, or event venue-know at least two escape routes.
- Follow official instructions quickly and calmly during evacuations or lockdowns.
- Verify before sharing information online; misinformation spreads panic.
- Save emergency numbers-Delhi Police (112), Fire (101), and Metro helpline (155370).
More than a monument, Red Fort is a symbol of India's resilience. The fact that an explosion happened so close to it makes this moment both tragic and sobering. But it also highlights something simple yet powerful: safety begins with awareness. As the investigation continues, what citizens can do right now is stay cautious, stay informed, and look out for one another.
