The History Behind The Prison…
his prison was once a cruel home for boys who were victims of parental neglect, abuse and poverty; and over a period of time, they were associated with shocking tales of punishment and abuse.

The History…
In 1915, a group of boys are said to have revolted against the harsh treatment inflicted upon them and they tried to escape. This prison was founded in 1982, with 115 inmates and it has been labelled as one of the most liberal prisons in the world.

The Uniqueness Of This Prison…
Here, the prisoners live in communal houses with televisions, kitchens, living rooms and even private bedrooms. Every single morning, everyone has a job, which they must report to at 8:30 AM and again at 3:30 PM.

The Activities...
During their free time, the prisoners are however allowed to go horse riding, fishing, play tennis, go for cross-country skiing, running or swimming at their own private beach. Sounds interesting, right?

There Are Only 5 Guards Who Guard The Prison...
The treatment given to the country's worst offenders is unusual and perplexing. In this prison, there is no prison uniforms, and prisoners are free to roam around the island. The best part is, there are no fences around the prison either and of the 69 prison employees, only five remain on the island overnight to stand guard.
The Re-offending Rates Have Declined Here...
Even though the prisoners are given a great treatment here, the re-offending rates have been reported at 16 per cent compared to a European average of around 70 per cent! Though this prison is open since the last 33 years, there has been only one escape attempt until now.
This is really strange!
