Yes, for our childhood friend our home is their second home and our family as their very own. You do not have to tell them how to be in front of your family elders. Moreover, your family is comfortable (and relieved) when they are with you! In fact at times your childhood friends are more trusted than you by your family!

Acting stupid? Childhood friends don't care:
In certain case even if you make a fool out of yourself, your bosom buddy does not care. They know you can manage to do more stupid things. You can be yourself with them.
