Myths & Facts About Sick Leaves
Sick leave is the only weapon that saves an employee at any work place. When you take leaves, you tend to show sick leave which is vague in most of the cases. Well, lying sometimes to hide a personal issue and blaming it on the health is normal. But, there are many people who misuse this privilege given to them by the companies.
If you think that applying for a sick leave is really helpful and acceptable, then perish the thought. There are many myths that are associated with sick leaves. Check out...
Myth #1: A sick leave from any practitioner will work

Fact: A sick leave is only acceptable if the doctor is registered under the government's act and has been allowed to practice. If the doctor is not certified to diagnose and treat patients, then the sick leaves stands to be a waste paper.
Myth #2: Employers can't ask about the sick certificate
Fact: Well, do not think that your employer can't ask about your health especially when he/she feels that you are lying. It is very difficult to hide white lies. If your employer has a doubt on your sick leave, he/she can question and ask you.
Myth #3: Sick leaves are annual
Fact: Sick leaves can last for 3 years. In the first 6 months from joining date, an employee is entitled to take 1 day sick leave (for every 26 days worked).
Myth #5: Sick leave for 2 consecutive days
Fact: A sick leave or certificate is only valid if you have taken consecutive leaves for more than 2 days (from the 3rd day onwards). Also, the employer can ask a medical certificate if the employee takes a full day leave more than twice within 8 weeks.
