White House Charmed With Bhangra Beats

On Monday a reception was held in celebration of “Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month" at the invitation of US President Barack Obama in White House in Washington DC on May 24.Hindu Statesman Rajan Zed along with US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, US Congressman Mike Honda, Redondo Beach (California) Mayor Mike Gin, etc attended the reception.
On this occasion, The East Room, was swayed with Bhangra Music played by DJ Rekha. Barakh Obama himself seem to enjoy the music. He said, "I want to thank DJ Rekha who's been spinning a little East Room Bhangra for everybody -- mixing a hip-hop beat with the sounds of her heritage; making a uniquely American sound that may not have been heard in the White House before."
"But you know, that speaks to the promise of this country -- a nation that welcomes contributions from all people, all colours, all creeds."
He further acknowledged, “more than 16 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders whose talents and efforts strengthen our economy and protect our security and enliven our communities each and every day. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have helped to fulfill that promise for generations now. And because of the leadership of all of you in this room and people all across the country, I"m confident that that will continue into this century. "
DJ Rekha, claimed that this was the best gig she has ever played. She confessed that getting an opportunity to play in the White House and being appreciated by Barack Obama was like a dream come true.
