Rajesh Shah, Wins Tech Awards For PWX
The Tech Awards, an international awards program of the Tech Museum, held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on November 6th, 2010 was attended by 1,300 people.
This event honours innovators around the globe who are applying to benefit the human race through technology. The Tech Awards recognises laureates in five fields which is Environment, Economic Development, Education, Equality and Health.
Rajesh Shah, from Bangalore, invented PWX (Peer Water Exchange) in 2003 is the winner of the 2010 Intel Tech Awards. He is happy that two laureates are from the water sector. The 2010 Intel Environment Award, was given to Rajesh Shah's Peer Water Exchange (PWX). It is a project of Blue Planet Network, a compilation of technology platform, process, philanthropies, businesses and implementers who will help solve global safe drinking water and sanitation crisis. The Blue Planet Network's inital goal is to bring safe drinking water to 200 million people in the near future.
Rajesh Shah, has designed his home in Bangalore to be water and energy efficient. He is also involved in managing, deploying, redesigning water, sewage, treatment and reuse projects in his community.
To solve the problem of managing thousands of projects, Rajesh Shah established the model of Peer Water Exchange.
From around the globe along with Rajesh Shah, fourteen other entrepreneurs and organisations were honoured, where five of them won a monetary prize of $50,000 each. Those who were recognised were given networking opportunites with potential partners and funders along with workshops related to building business models.
The major sponsers of the Tech Awards event were five companies and one foundation. The lead sponser was Applied Materials as well as Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, BD Biosciences and the Swanson Foundation. Each of these sponsers contributed a sum of $1.5 million for the Tech Awards Event.
