10 Days Of Onam Celebration
6. Thriketa – By the sixth day of Onam, Kerelaites are drenched in the celebration and jubilation. Cultural programmes are organised in several places. Family members who stay outside Kerela return to their motherland.
Onam is all about celebrating quality time with family and friends. During the holy days of Onam, people live life to their fullest and enjoy every moment of the festival.
7.Moolam – Moolam marks the seventh day of Onam. The market is flooded with different colours of flowers. The focus once again goes back to Pookalam. The Pookalam is now made in a new design with Kondattam using the most beautiful flowers.
The shops are loaded with gifts and people forgetting all the hard feeling accept each other once again in good faith. Lakhs and lakhs of people in kerela celebrate the spirit of Onam.
8.Pooradam – Just two days left for the big day. Preparations are on to make the big day special. The eighth day holds great significance. Clay idol devotees in the shape of small pyramids are placed in the house. The idol is called Poorada Uttigal and also Ma. Ma is decorated with flowers.
9.Uthradam – The spirit of King Mahabali will arrive soon and thus preparations are made to make sure everything is perfect. This day is specially dedicated to the prosperity of family. On the day of Utradam tenants and dependents of Nayar Tarawads bring in the new produce from the farm and the family together cook and enjoy the sumptuous delicacies.
10.Thiruvonam Aashamsakal – Finally the big day has arrived. The spirit of legendary King Mahabali visits the state of Kerala. Prayers are offered to both king Mahabali and Lord Vishnu. The best Pookalam is made on this day. Clay mounds in the shape of Mahabli and Lord Vishnu are made in front of Pookalam.
Today the feast is strictly vegetarian and includes 11-13 mandatory dishes. The dishes are served in banana leafs and the eldest member of the family distributes gifts to all.
In these 10 days of Onam carnival, the state of Kerala sings, dances and drools in the intoxicating sense of celebration and brotherhood.
