International Day Of Peace - 21st September

Today, the 21st of September, is dedicated to the same cause, peace. This day is celebrated as the International Day Of Peace, worldwide. It was started in the year 1981 by the 36/76 of the United States General Assembly and was decided to coincide with it's opening session every September. In the year 2001, this day was made an annual celebration Worldwide.
The International Day of Peace is meant to be a day of non-violence and cease fire. This day witnesses, peace marches to spread the message of World Peace.
International Day Of Peace 2010
On the occasion of International Day Of Peace 2010, United Nations has asked young people from across the World to share the story of their work towards spreading the message of peace. The campaign slogan is Peace = Future, The math is easy.
The International Day Of Peace 2010, falls on the same time of major summit of Millennium Development Goal, the World's anti-poverty Campaign. In this Summit World's leaders will come together in United Nations at New York, to discuss the development strategies and to maintain world peace. This event is being held from 20th September to 22nd September.
The two important days together, proves the link between Peace and Development. Without one the other is not possible. Peace brings in harmony among nations, which enables a joint effort towards diminishing social evils. International Day of Peace 2010, has acknowledged the importance of youth towards spreading the message of peace.
The youth work towards their goal of peace without submitting themselves to any boundaries and this is what is exactly needed for Millennium Development.

Bell
The United Nation Association of Japan had presented the Japanese Peace Bell to the United Nations in June 1954. The bell was casted from metal coins collected from 60 different countries of the World.
The Peace Bell, embodies the message of Peace of the whole world. The words, ' Long Live Absolute World Peace' is inscribed on the Peace bell. The bell resembles the Japanese Shinto Shrine and is made out of Cypress Wood. It is now kept at the 42nd Street and First Avenue New York City.
The Peace Bell is rung twice a year – On the first day of spring and on the occasion of International Day Of Peace.
