Racism Is Disgusting

Racism is disgusting. Give me a break. We live in the 21st Century guys, there are hundred thousand things to think of rather than screwing(apologies for the word – just that, couldn't think of a better word) your mind thinking about some thing as absurd as 'Race'. Yes, I have had previous encounters when some body – a close mate, in fact – tried dissuading me from meeting an artist who belonged to a different community; he was an outstanding painter. Okay, guess, I should be more open with the statement. He was one of our mutual friends but belonged to an Islam Community. So? What on earth is wrong with that. But who would explain this elderly-aged-old man from my family. Disapproval with an elderly man in my family was considered to be rude. The only option left for me was to negate myself from befriending the guy. And I did that.
What is even worst, is how the whole idea was infused onto my mind. Trust you me – till that day in my life, never had I actually think about some thing as poignant as that – Race. It had never matter to me. I am a Buddhist by birth – my father is one, but my mom, who expired in 2001 was cremated and not burn. For all those who can't get this straight, it means, my mom was not a Buddhist. She was Christian, lived a life of an evangelist with a buddhist husband, well versed with all Hindu festivals, and gave her whole hearted participation when it's was about celebrating a Buddhist festival at home, with family members. Perhaps, that was the reason why her name would be right in the top every time there was some kind of celebration in the colony we lived in.
So, the biggest question, is who is held to be responsible? Till date, the idea of befriending a Musilm guy haunts me? Who is to be held responsible for this? Is it the over-hyped media that runs with the hormone called 'sensationalization', or we the humans that have learned, over the years, the art of prototyping. It's a prototype, isn't it? Today, in retrospection, I feel why was I made to think that way. Had it not been for the mu great-scholar uncle, I wouldn't have, ever, thought some thing like that. I mean, why does one generalize, or even try to do it. And now, look at it, there are even greater fools than my uncle. All these years', I had thought, with a hope, that the younger generation have the power to do, and make the change. At least they are not the ones to put oil in the fire, by raising prototypical statement like that. But I guess, I was wrong.
Today, while surfing through the net, some thing interesting happened, some thing that reminded me of my self-claimed learned uncle. I'm an active member in a lot of social communities, always sang a praising song for it for the way it has made the world smaller. But, today, I have deleted my account from one of the SC's of which I have been an active member all these years. Agreed, it has indeed help us a lot to find our lost friends, get in touch with people who share common view, get advice from professional people, but, I feel, there is some thing more to it. I ran into a community which read I HATE PAKISTAN. The description, too, was simple, to the point, and of course all letters in caps:
1-WE HATE PAKISTAN...
2-WE WANT WAR WITH PAKISTAN...
3-PAKISTAN IS THE ROOT OF TERRORISM...
Does this sound interesting to you? At least to me, it doesn't. Hang on, the story doesn't end here as well. Curiosity took me further. I typed the same 'I HATE PAKISTAN' in the search box, and was baffled to see not less than twenty different communities that spoke the same. Now, the question: What are we intending to do? Have we forgotten that some million children – both school and college goers are also a member of the same. They, too, have every possibility to accidentally run into a community like that. And then, just like my uncle did to me, their psyches, too, get affected.
So, let's not aggravate the situation this way. Rather, let's do the bits we can to make the already hostile-like situation less complicated. Let's not forget that the change has to be within us. A lot of us must have lived our life, but there are others, who have just begun their voyage – let's make that, a pleasant journey for them.
