Earth Day: The fight for a clean and green earth

World earth day is observed as part of the fight for a clean environment. The desire to live along with the nature and to preserve the natural recourses for the generations to come, fuels each earth day celebration. Even though conceived in United States, the Earth Day, today is a global movement and on the background of global warming and environmental changes, the observance is relevant all around the globe.
Each year, the April 22 Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Earth Day Network, the organisation behind the concept and activities, is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. When it comes to the founder of Earth Day, there are different names put forward by various organisations. Few consider John McConnell as the founder of the movement and others maintain that Gaylord Nelson was the founder of Earth Day. However, Earth Day Network consider Gaylord Nelson as the founder of the movement and Denis Hayes was the first national organizer, celebrations commenced in 1970. EDN sticks to the point that Earth Day should be celebrated on April 22.
Earth Day promotes environmental citizenship and year round progressive action worldwide. Earth Day Network is a driving force steering environmental awareness around the world. Earth Day activities include planting trees, making nature crafts and earth day crafts, earth day art projects, spreading nature awareness etc... Earth Day is a good time to make a commitment to learning more about the environment and how you can help to protect it. Earth Day Network promotes a number of diverse initiatives meant to encourage activism, civic engagement, and real progress throughout the year. EDN is currently working on campaigns for 'green schools', as well as campaigns to help bring water and sanitation to parts of the world where citizens currently have little to no access to clean water and adequate sanitation.
