Mysterious Deathbed Visions

By Staff

"While Mom was dying, she started talking to all of the dead relatives as if they were right there, in the room with her!" recalls Margaret, with a mysterious smile indicating that there is still life after death.

Such mysterious visions are too hard to believe and seems just a state of mind at the time of death. However, they are, in fact, more common and are surprisingly similar across nationalities, religions and cultures, throughout history. These visions prompt every individual to believe the fact of life after death.

Deathbed Visions is a phenomenon, whereby a dying person has an awareness of the presence of dead relatives or friends. It is said that these deceased persons who visit the dying, come to help the sick person with the transition from life to death. The gentle lift from the life of pain and anguish to the journey on the path of peace and tranquility is made easy with the the deceased loved ones. Read some interesting facts about the last stage on the journey of life, by a study conducted by Sir William Barrett, a Professor of Physics at the Royal College of Science in Dublin in a book titled Death Bed Visions in 1926.

  • According to Barret, children were often surprised to see angels without wings in their dying moments. This proves the fact that if the deathbed vision was just a hallucination, the child would see an angel with large, white wings as it is most often depicted in all art forms.
  • The book states that the majority claim to see familiar people who had previously passed away, than any other religious and mythical figures. Friends and relatives seen in these visions, often directly express that they have come to help them take them away.
  • Deathbed visions have common characteristics such as radiant lights, scenes of great beauty, beings of light, and feelings of great peace. Generally their appearance elicits a response of joy, peace, happiness, and cessation of pain, but a small number of individuals have reacted with fear and denial.
  • Often people get scared to meet the deceased, but to the contrary the dying person is reassured by the experience and expresses great happiness with the vision.
  • The research even states that the dying person's mood and even state of health seems to change during these visions. The depressed man crying with pain suddenly overcomes the pain until the death strikes for another beginning.
  • The book also states that whether or not the dying person believes in an afterlife is irrelevant as the experiences and reactions are the same.

President Abraham Lincoln's vision of death

President Abraham Lincoln had a strange dream about his death several days before he was assassinated! Read about his dream, as it was related to Lincoln's friend, Will Hill Lamon,

"There seemed to be a death-like stillness about me. Then I heard subdued sobs, as if a number of people were weeping. I thought I left my bed and wandered downstairs. I went from room to room...the same mournful sounds of distress met me as I passed along...I kept on until I arrived at the East Room, which I entered. There I met with a sickening surprise. Before me was a catafalque, on which rested a corpse...'Who is dead in the White House?' I demanded of one of the soldiers. 'The President,' was the answer, 'he was killed by an assassin.' Then there came a loud burst of grief from the crowd, which awoke me from my dream. I slept no more that night; and although it was only a dream, I have been strangely annoyed by it ever since."

Although unbelievable, deathbed visions do prompt us to believe about the world of mystery and the life after death. Believe it or not they are a part of every bodies life. Listen to the knock of death, but do not get scared as its just an invitation to another land.
