The Potter fans were waiting the publication of the second book of Harry Potter series by the middle of 1998. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets came into in release by 2nd July 1998 to quench their eagerness. The book vividly depicted the boy wizard's adventure during the second year at Hogwarts.

The novel begins at an adventurous note when the Dursleys lock up Harry in his room. Harry gets a letter of expulsion from Ministry of Magic for a magic done by a house elf named Dobby. However Harry's friends and well wishers become able to rescue him from the initial dilemmas that he has put in. Harry soon starts his second year at Hogwarts.

The second year has so much in store for Harry Potter. The first term goes with his victories in Qudditch match and humorous incidents at Professor Gilderoy Lockhart's classes. Harry also gets introduced to Ron's sister Ginny, who fancies him.

The second year becomes eventful as the dreaded 'Chamber Of Secrets' at Hogwarts gets opened. According to the legend, the chamber was built by Salazar Slytherin and the monster who resides inside it, is supposed to kill the mudblood wizards. Several muggle born students gets stunned by the monster including Harry's best friend Hermione Granger.

Harry starts to work in accordance with the instructions of a magical diary that shows him the past incidents at Hogwarts. Harry even suspects his friend Hagrid who had let out a monstrous animal at the time the chamber was opened previously. However Harry gets the minute details of the previous disaster from the monstrous spider named Aragog, whom Hagrid had let out.
